About Felicia Rose Chavez

Felicia Rose Chavez is an award-winning educator and Scholar-in-Residence in Creativity and Innovation at Colorado College. Chavez shows how writing is a political act and exposes the often invisible politics of power and privilege that are maintained through well-established (and unquestioned) writing and assessment practices in education. By sharing her own story, and by critically analyzing writing workshop through lenses of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation, Chavez lays the groundwork for her anti-racist approach that also challenge the white bias and infrastructure of writing and assessment and provides clear and actionable steps to foster a 21st century anti-racist alternative.
