One of the ways our project team Reimagined Literacies Assessment was by creating a postcard in response to each of the podcasts in the series. We listened to the podcasts, created a postcard, and then came together to share our postcards and talk about what we noticed, thought about, wondered, and felt in the process of making them. We’re found that this process contribute to rich conversations with one another about literacy and assessment. Each time, we came away with new insights, connections, and more to think about.
Why postcards? As an “enabling constraint,” postcards have limited space; they can include images/visualizations as well as text, which encourages multimodal engagements with the podcasts (drawings, photo, colour, font, design); they are intended to be shared, providing opportunities for dialogue and conversation; and they can be collected, allowing us to revisit our thinking and ideas over time. Their brief form and purpose remind us that “knowledge, like being, is dynamic, unfinished” (Truman, 2017, p. 198).
